29 people were injured in the bombing on West 23rd St. in New York on Saturday, September 17…
Dear Colleagues and Students:
On Friday, Oct. 7, we’d like to invite as many faculty, staff, and students as can make it to join us at the fountain in front of Main for a group photo. A version of this photo will grace the cover of the Winter 2017 Points of Pride alumni magazine, which will include a feature on the centennial of our fountain. The photo may also be used on college thank-you cards (We’ll have signs for people to hold for that version.)
Also you need to do is show up at noon Friday, Oct. 7, at the fountain and gather around it. We’ll shoot a few quick photos and take a snippet or two of video, and then you’ll be on your way. PrideGear would be very appropriate but is not required.
We will send out a notice by email at least one hour in advance if the shoot has to be postponed because of weather.
Thank you all, and we hope to see everybody out there at noon, Friday, Oct. 7!
Colleagues and students;
The Civil War seminar will be taking a tour of Pamplin Park, the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier and of The Crater portion of the Petersburg National Battlefield in Petersburg, VA, Saturday, October 8th. (Yes, that’s during Fall Break,)
We’ll visit the excellent museum inside PP and then go outside to view a restored portion of the Confederate defensive line during the siege of Petersburg. We’ll also get a demonstration on soldiers’ life and weapons. Then we’ll head over to The Crater for a tour with a senior National Park Ranger.
We have some room for a few other guests to join us, if any of you would like. In fact, there are only six of us going and we need at least 10 to get the reduced group rate and the option of a guide for part of Pamplin Park. So, we can accommodate up six more guests and still be able to fit in the 12 passenger rental van.
If you join us, the History dept will cover the cost of admission to Pamplin Park, which also includes a boxed lunch.
Students, if you want to come along, but will happen to be home for Fall Break and home is closer to Petersburg, VA, than Greensboro, you could just meet us there.
This will be an all-day trip from Greensboro. We’ll need to leave at 8:00am (!) Saturday the 8th in order to get to PP in-time. We’ll head home @5:00. It’s a 2 hr, 45 minute drive.
You’ll be “on your own” for breakfast and dinner.
If you’d like to attend, please let me know by next Wednesday, October 5th, at the latest, preferably sooner. I need to give the PP staff a head-count and the box-lunch order.
Once you RSVP, I’ll send you the lunch menu and you can make your selection.
I can take the first six folks to reply.
You are invited as we conclude our EMPOWERME month series….
Please see the t-shirts our volleyball team is selling. All profits will go to the American cancer society. Please contact Coach Kaci Pike no later than 5:00 tomorrow to order yours!!! Thank you for your support! Her email is email@example.com

Sexual Misconduct Student Advisory Board
The Greensboro College Student Government Association has approved the establishment of a Sexual Misconduct Student Advisory Board. Instituting this board was one specific suggestion proposed by Dr. Lisa Gunther’s Fall 2015 Social Psychology class as they developed a bystander intervention campaign. The role of the advisory board will be to raise awareness and develop programming related to sexual misconduct and bystander intervention.
If you are interested in joining the board in this inaugural year and helping to shape the organization, please click the link below to apply. The charter calls for five students and the hope is that these students will represent a diverse cross-section of the Greensboro College community. Once you apply, you will be contacted to arrange for an interview. The goal is for the students to be selected and installed by October so they can begin to plan and implement activities this academic year.
If you have questions regarding the board, please contact me at
