Greek Life on Campus: Alpha Xi Delta

by Kiara DeVaughn

When I came to Greensboro College, I was like almost every student—I wanted to get more involved on campus. I looked through our school newsletter, The Rafiki and our school’s app to find something that I was interested in. When I found Alpha Xi Delta tagged on the Student Activities Instagram, I felt like it would be the perfect way to get more involved on campus and give back to my new community.

If you were not aware, Alpha Xi Delta is GC’s only form of Greek life. I joined two years ago in the spring semester of my freshman year, and they have been the best two years of my life. Through my time of being a member of the sorority, I have been the Membership Vice President for two terms and learned many things that will benefit me after I graduate—from leadership roles to dealing with budgets.

Our sorority is not like the stereotypical group of sisters that come to mind when you think of a sorority. We are an actual family; I can proudly say that all my sisters are people I can rely on whenever I need someone.

Along with that, we have tons of fun with the events we host on campus. We have hosted Pie Xi Pride, in which students pie their professors, and Xi One, a talent show/pageant. With these events, all proceeds have gone towards providing foster children in our community with school supplies. This past semester we were working with the Kindly Hearts initiative, but this semester we are focusing our philanthropy locally. Seeing everyone come together and support our philanthropic work makes us proud of what we do for our community. All the fundraising and recruitment events can only be made possible thanks to GC students.

We are always looking for new members and people who are interested in joining. All you have to do is DM us on Instagram @gc_axid. Even if you are not able to join us as a sister, we are glad to just give you information on open events that we have so you can come and have fun with us! Alpha Xi Delta is a great way to become more involved on campus, even with a full schedule, and have fun while participating.
