Canvas the arts

by David Slifer

Greensboro College has a lot of great sites to see on campus. There is the GC history museum on the third floor of Main Building and the fountain in front of Main Building. One place that is also a great place to see is the art gallery in Cowan. For those who have classes in Cowan, you may have passed the gallery on your way to a class. It is an amazing place to visit. When walking up the stairs, you are greeted by the many visual pieces around you.

Not only are there paintings to go along with this exhibit, but I was surprised to see a uniquely designed chair in the middle section of the display room. There is not a huge variety of different pieces, but you will be pleased to see other forms of art in the building.

The Anne Rudd Galyon gallery.

As I visited the gallery, a canvas that caught my eye was of the sun setting on the horizon of a beautiful ocean. Around it though, there is a dark gray framing that looks like it has been cut open, so we are able to see the amazing view. It may seem like that one section of the gallery is all they have, but it is not at all.

The Anne Rudd Galyon and Irene Cullis galleries are great places to see amazing art and the talent that people have. If you look to the right once you reach the top of the stairs, you will then see a glass wall with two glass doors. You can go through those doors and continue to find more intriguing and unique pieces of art. You can look and see a whole wall being covered by the painted pieces.

Without a doubt, this is a place where you can be immersed in what you see. You should definitely take some time to stop by and view the art pieces in the galleries.
