Dance away with ‘MORP 4 Hunger’

by Xypher Pino

As the semester winds down and final exams come about, we all need an opportunity to be able to relax and relieve ourselves of stress. To serve as the finale event for the ongoing N.C. Hunger Challenge, the Pride Pantry team and the Student Government Association (SGA) will be hosting a dance party on December 1 dubbed as “MORP 4 Hunger.”

“We want to do something fun yet easily accessible for all students while helping the fight against food insecurity,” said Emilee Eaton, one of the students leading the event. MORP is meant to be a fun, stress-free event that everyone can participate in. If you have not noticed, MORP is prom but backwards – this means that no one should need to worry about how expensive their dress or suit would be, no one should care what one wears to the party – everyone should only be focused on having fun while dancing against hunger insecurity.

This event will not just be your regular dance party; in fact, it is very far from that. According to the students working the event, this Vegas-themed party will have tons of different games set up everywhere, something you usually do not see in dance parties – there will be multiple tables dedicated to card games with staff and faculty acting as dealers, there will be balloon popping, the classic cup pong game but without the beer or alcohol and many more sources of entertainment. On top of that, there will be free high-quality food available and even the possibility of having a D.J. at the event.

“We think MORP 4 Hunger will become an event that gives back to the community and gives students a fun night. Our goal is that this event raises food insecurity awareness and show that everyone can be an advocate for positive change,” stated Alex Trepper, Student Body President of SGA. If everything goes to plan and this dance becomes highly successful, this event should become a staple in GC for years to come. The students heading this dance hope that this turns out to be just like the Winter Rose dance which is hosted every spring semester. If you were not aware, Winter Rose was started by a group of GC students just a couple of years before the COVID pandemic. The Pride Pantry team and SGA are putting tons of hours and energy into planning and organizing this event in the hopes of making this come true.

This event will be a perfect way to conclude what GC has done with the N.C. Hunger Challenge. There is nothing more fun than to dance and celebrate the Pride Pantry team’s accomplishments with battling food insecurity this semester. As one of GC’s hunger ambassadors for the challenge, I have had a blast with all the events we have hosted this semester and I am so happy that other students are just as excited as we are with throwing events and increasing hunger insecurity awareness on campus. We are really trying our best to make this event as greatas it can be, and we hope that you are looking forward to attending this party.

This event will be hosted over at the Lea Center, on the first floor of Main Building, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 1. Attendees must donate at least two canned goods to get into the party. Also, everyone who attends the dance will automatically be entered into a raffle for a huge prize, but those who are extra generous and decide to donate extra canned goods will get more raffle entries. Make sure you mark December 1 on your calendars and spread the word about MORP 4 Hunger. Join us in fighting against and dancing hunger insecurity away from Greensboro College!
