GC to host first Olympics in April

by Babatunde Odofin

Mark your calendars for April 4 because a one-day event you would not want to miss is coming to campus – the GC Olympics. This innovative idea was conceived by the Student Government Association (SGA) president, Alex Trepper, to encourage student engagement and participation in extracurricular activities. Trepper has always been passionate about creating fun events for students that relate to real-world events. His love for the Olympic games and the unity and togetherness it brings inspired him to bring this same spirit to the GC campus.

As a seasoned event planner who has been creating, planning and executing fun competitions for about five years now, Trepper has his eyes set on making the GC Olympics a memorable event. He took inspiration from his previous summer job back home where he created baseball-styled Olympic games for a summer camp program and applied the same idea to the GC campus.

The GC Olympics will offer a variety of events that students can participate in, including a red-light-green-light event, a rock-paper-scissors knockout event and a ping pong tournament. More events and information will be announced during the month of March, so stay tuned.

These Olympics are the perfect opportunity for everyone to take a break from their academic endeavors and engage in some fun games with their classmates and friends. Participants will have a chance to win medals with prizes attached to them. Whether you are an elite athlete or have never played a sport, everyone can participate and will have an equal shot at winning. There will be music, games, food and drinks available for all attendees, both participants and spectators.

Trepper is excited about the prospect of the GC Olympics becoming an annual tradition at GC. The event holds a lot of significance for him as it symbolizes his impact on the student body during his tenure as the SGA president. He is eagerly looking forward to the event and hopes that it will provide an opportunity for students to bond, make new friends and create unforgettable memories. To ensure that students do not miss out on this exciting event, a multitude of flyers, tons of emails and regular table set ups at the cafeteria will be happening over the next couple of weeks to raise hype for the event and provide all the necessary information.

Are you excited for this event? You should be – get ready to have a blast and make some amazing memories at the GC Olympics!
