Kinesiology club returns to GC

by Payton Bell

After many years of inactivity, Greensboro College welcomes the return of the Kinesiology Club, back with new events and all new members. The KIN Club is a student-led organization that promotes healthy living through leadership, service and fun events. The purpose of the Kinesiology Club is to help get students out and moving for the benefit of their own health. Also, KIN club aims to develop professional skills and knowledge of its members while simultaneously creating a community with students at GC who share their interest in kinesiology or health and wellness.

The Kinesiology Club board is led by President Bethany McQuinn, who is supported by Taylor Cotie as the vice president. Alongside them is me as treasurer and secretary Alexandra Carefoot. On September 25, the Kinesiology Club collaborated with GC Residence Life hosted a cornhole tournament on Pride Field. Roughly over 30 teams came out and supported the Kinesiology Club while playing a fun competitive game against many other athletic teams and friends. The winner of the tournament was Adam Stubbs and Cedrick Crenshaw Jr., also known as “Cornhole Champs.” As a prize, they won a gift card to Chipotle and a Homecoming shirt. The cornhole tournament was a great turnout.

The Collegian asked McQuinn what her favorite part about the event and her overall thoughts. She responds by saying, “The cornhole tournament had a better turnout than we expected. My favorite part was seeing all these different athletic teams playing and even having students who were not participating watching this event!” Professor Anna Carter and Professor Amber Booker who are part of the Kinesiology Department stopped by to see how the event turned out and were very pleased. This event was a great way for students to get out of the dorm room on a beautiful day and get to play an outdoor game with their friends while listening to some music and eating snacks.

With a huge population of Greensboro College students being athletes, the Kinesiology Club is a great club to be involved in. Some KIN club events that are upcoming this semester includes pumpkin panting for breast cancer patients for Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 22 during lunch time. Also, during the month of November, the Kinesiology Club is hosting “The Athletic Drive” where the club is accepting any athletic equipment or attire for a local school in need. “The Athletic Drive” is a great way for students at Greensboro to become more involved in the community and provide resources for future athletes. If you wish to become more involved or want to help with KIN club events please contact our President Bethany McQuinn for further details.

Greensboro College is a place where anyone can join anything and feel a part of something. “I decided to join the Kinesiology Club because I am a Physical Education major and I love the message that the club brings of getting out and moving through different events we host,” McQuinn said. There are so many opportunities here at GC where you can decide your path of success and the Kinesiology Club is one of many that allows people to come together and spread awareness.
