Stephen King has given Hollywood many works with his books. He has given the basis for films such as The Shining, Shawshank Redemption, IT and many more. Now it is time for one of King’s most notable works to get another time to shine with “Carrie” getting a new adaptation.

This new retelling is going to be in the mini-series format and will be streamed on Prime Video. Along with other writers and directors, the big name attached to this project is Mike Flanagan who is the showrunner, writer and director for this project.
This story has had previous adaptations with the two most notable being the 1976 adaptation where Sissy Spacek played the title character and the 2013 adaption with Chloe Grace Moretz as the title character. This new interpretation is going to be unique in many ways. The first being that this is the third Stephen King work that Flanagan has adapted with the previous two being “Doctor Sleep” and “The Life of Chuck.” King is known for being particular about who adapts his work and it is clear that Flanagan is one of King’s select few picks.
Another change to this story will be it taking place in the modern day. The book was written in 1974 and its first film adaptation was done two years later. This will be a good change in that way it can connect to a wider and younger audience. This will also change how Carrie is treated as with her being bullied – that atmosphere has changed for the worse.
The cast as of now consists of Summer H. Howell as Carrie, Samantha Sloyan as Carrie’s mother, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle. The project will be released in October of this year on Prime Video.
The reason this is such a big deal is not only because this is a King adaptation with a master horror writer show running the project, but “Carrie” was King’s first published work and for him it must feel good to see his work not only retold but also still cared about. Flanagan is also planned to direct the retelling of “The Mist,” also written by King. He also has plans to write, direct and adapt King’s “The Dark Tower” series. As of right now though, Carrie is almost here and we cannot wait for it to hit screens.
