Greensboro College has changed a lot with new buildings, new students each year, new student leaders and now new faculty. In the admissions office, we have a new admissions counselor, Olivia Harris, and a new associate director of admissions, David Stevenson. Both are ready and willing to help new students find their place at Greensboro College and help make GC, and its students, the best college it can be.
Google’s definition of their jobs, purpose and goals does not fully capture what they do and why, so I interviewed Stevenson and Harris to hear their perspectives and backgrounds.
Stevenson, before coming to Greensboro, worked several jobs for his alma mater as a college junior admissions representative and a professor, teacher and class substitute. He studied in graduate school to prepare for law school and to be a lawyer, but that is not the path life had for him. Instead, he kept getting promoted in admissions at a North Carolina state school. All of that led up to his employment at Greensboro College. When asked what kinds of students he looks for to bring to the Greensboro College Pride, he said students who are hungry to make a difference in the world and have a drive and desire to graduate. He wants to give a chance to those students who did not particularly shine in high school, those who make an effort to better themselves.
Harris is a GC alum of 2025 with a degree in health science and a minor in exercise science. She said that she enjoyed her time at Greensboro College and that her mom works at GC as well, serving as the chair of the business department. According to her, working at Greensboro was not the original plan, but the opportunity to do some good at Greensboro College was very enticing.

“I really enjoyed just going to school here,” she said. “I graduated in 2025, so it has not been that long. I was looking for a job, and I heard about the opportunity, and it just kind of fell into place, honestly, with my mom working here and then meeting the team. It was a perfect alignment.”
She was asked what her per sonal goal is working as a counselor in admissions.
“I just want to guide them [students], resonate with them and make connections with them,” she answered. “That is the main goal. I want to be an active part of that and whatever I can do to help better the experience here.”
A noble goal that I know many students will benefit from.
So, give a warm welcome to our new faculty members and pray that their endeavors to better the student population come to fruition. We are nothing with out a leg to stand on, and Harris and Stevenson plan to give students the support they need to succeed in everything they do here at Greensboro College.
