The men’s soccer team is set to kick-off its 2016 campaign. It will be tough to top last year’s performance (14-5-1, 9-0-1 in conference). However, the Pride intends to build off of last year despite losing All-American and Conference Player of the Year Shaun Watt and All-Conference selections Robbie Barnes, Liam Buckley and Craig Cage, as well as Honorable Mention Isaiah Nji. Last year, the Pride was able to use its talented group of men to win the conference during the regular season before losing in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
To the Pride returns key players Carlos Barragan (freshman player of the year), Scott Fatyol (All-Conference selection) and Jaime Payamps (Honorable mention All-Conference selection). The Pride looks to live up to the current expectations as they are preseason favorites to win the conference again this year.
“We’d really like to improve upon last year’s performance,” said Redshirt Sophomore Aameen Goyal. “We lost a lot of experience this year, but coach Falvino brought in a lot of new talent, now it’s just a matter of building team chemistry and doing what we need to do on the field…we’ve got a good bunch of lads.”
The Pride opened its season September 2nd at Christopher Newport University.
