The Seniors’ Opera Workshop

On March 31st at 6:00 pm, the Opera Workshop was performed by Greensboro College’s music majors! Many songs were sung, such as “Think of Me” from The Phantom of the Opera and “The Ballad of Sweeney Todd” from Sweeney Todd. Pieces were also performed from The Gondoliers, Dido and Aeneas, Der Rosenkavalier, and Carmen.

The event was split into two halves. The first half was comprised of Musical Theatre selections, while the second half was comprised of opera selections. I enjoyed both halves immensely. All of the opera selections were in English, which made it easier for everyone to understand them. While opera in its original languages (Italian or German) is always preferable, it also sounds great when translated to or sung in English. I had a lot of fun and heard a lot of good music!

I also happened to get some videos of two of the Opera pieces. Here is a video of the performance of “Melon” from Carmen:

Here is another video showing the performance of “Toreador” from Carmen:

Both songs were fun to watch, listen to, and record.

I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I did. I also encourage you to visit some of the future musical events on campus! They will not disappoint you.
